It can get frustrating to see people throw low-effort work into 'any' Portal. And even more frustrating to see "test 1 (WIP broken willl fix later please dont blam)" get a 3 star-rating.

But my advice was not meant as "don't review anymore"...

A bunch of your reviews I saw in the Obituaries were very much along the lines of "This is crap." or "This should not be on NG." And truth be told: Given that it's next to impossible to get something blammed, you were probably _spot_on_ with those assessments! But a bunch of those uploaders are probably just stupid kids. Telling them "This is bad." without giving pointers on 'how to make it better' will not help them realize what they should improve upon. And ultimately, that is what the review section is for: Encouragement, suggestions for improvement, and witty remarks.
You animate yourself; you should be able to tell every animator (or game dev) that does poorly at least one thing they could improve upon. _Nobody_ can expect you to write an essay for what is essentially a bad draft. But giving an artist just a single pointer can make a lot of difference. Plus: Being compassionate will make it easier for artists to 'emotionally' accept that you might be correct about the quality of their submission(s).

'But': In the end, we don't write reviews to waste our own time. If you "strongly suspect" that somebody does not care about how their work fares here and what kind of a reputation it will earn them, no amount of effort on your part would make them reconsider.

If you notice something that you think could easily be improved and get the vibe that the artist in question 'actually tried', then writing a review or a PM could be worth the risk (of potentially wasting your time).
Admittedly, I do not get a lot of feedback for my "Mini-Feedback"-PMs, but when I do the artists in question are usually pretty happy for little things like PMs that boil down to "Use tags", "Write a description", "Your Thumbnail is broken", "This should probably loop", "This loops but should probably not", "This looks interesting, but the artifacting made the screentext unreadable", "You made 20 cool little mini-games. You clearly care... For the love of dog: PLEASE upload an avatar image...", etc.

Sometimes it's the little things. And as I said: It does not 'have' to be a review. Saying something in private rather that in a "public" setting can get very different responses in some cases.

@Platzsoldier To be fair, without having seen the submission in question, "very unoriginal intro on newgrounds" does not tell me anything apart from "This is unoriginal."
Unless your remark was a bit tongue-in-cheek and it was a straight-up 'copy' of the official Newgrounds-tank animation ( https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/creator-resources/flash-loaders ), I could not tell what was wrong with the animation itself, just from reading your review-text.

For comparison's sake, here's a review I wrote recently for an animation I had a fair bit of criticism for:

Obviously, I am way too wordy, but you can see how I address 'specific aspects' that I thought could use some improvement.
While the author has addressed a few of my 'easy to fix' concerns, they were rather lazy about it and just did a bare minimum. I 'tried', but I will not spend time on them again. But my aim wasn't to discourage them from ever trying again - I just wanted them to do better and reflect more on what they want to convey. So that future animations of theirs would be more enjoyable to me and others.
To me, in a nutshell, that is the goal when I review: I want better stuff "tomorrow". It does not always "work out", but I can guarantee you that artists will be more likely to listen if you manage to to express what you 'liked' about it. You 'could' just try to vent your frustrations to them, but ultimately, that would only lead to 'more frustration' later along the line.

Take however many breaks you need. I'm sure there'll be another high-standards reviewer to take your place in the mean time. I've already broken the 5500 mark about yesterday.

@Platzsoldier Yes, please try and get a friend of yours on NG to pick up on portal work when you're not around. We've already got people trying to post NSFW and not properly marking it as such.

Finally came back to reviewing, to rag on a bad animation test that got through judgement, much less. Isn't there some kind of blam crew that makes sure nothing like this happens? Whatever happened to that?

Damn. In my opinion, your reviews were very good. You are obviously taking care of the site from horrible videos. Especially because of those moderators who have nothing to do other than mute the wrong people. You are certainly one of best blammers here. I do hope you somehow return to reviewing.
